Our Senior School
Welcome to the Senior School at Polam, where we offer a challenging and broad curriculum, delivered by expert staff with a passion for their subjects. We believe that our secondary programme creates confident, able and articulate young people who go on to make their mark in the wider world.
In Years 7 to 9 we build on the firm foundations of primary education, ensuring that all pupils experience a full offer of academic subjects and a wide range of activities. All pupils will study English, Maths, Science, a modern foreign language, Food, Computing, PE, Music, Drama and Art. Every pupil will experience a range of activities, through a programme built into the school day, which ensures the participation needed to build confidence.
Year 9 is a year of transition, when pupils begin GCSE courses in Science and Mathematics, and choose their GCSE options in other subjects. GCSE content and assessments will be introduced early in many subjects to create a seamless transition and enable pupils to succeed.
In Years 10 and 11 pupils begin to specialise, choosing from a range of academic and vocational options that allow them to pursue their own interests and aptitudes. Every pupil is known at Polam and this means that individual talents are recognised. Comprehensive careers guidance prepares students well for their next steps.
It is not only academic experiences that build a Polam Learner – all that we do, from class assemblies to House competitions, from student leadership roles and peer mentors to co-curricular activities, are designed to develop our core traits in every pupil.
